Mentor & VFX Supervisor “Jasper”

As an industry mentor for students at the UTS Animal Logic Academy, I performed the role of VFX Supervisor on the award winning short film Jasper, directed by Simon Rippingale.

The film combines a live action miniature set, filmed by a KUKA robot, integrated with computer animated characters and scenery generated using Maya and UnrealEngine.

Blending reality with 3D animation and Robotic controls.

I used 3D scanning to plan the shoot and integrate the 3D and real environments.  Working with the robotic technician, we developed a workflow to get data from the animation software, Maya, to the KUKA robot which held the live action camera. The KUKA robot was used to film multiple passes of the miniature set including alternative lenses, and different lighting passes.
